Anthony Bourdain is my hero
First, I have to share this absolutely hilarious blog, written by Anthony Bourdain. It is fantastic and he is spot on as he discusses many of the Food Network chefs.
And while I am sharing amusing sites re: FN stars, here is a Rachael Ray drinking game that a friend passed on. A few things are missing, however, such as her references to everyday vinegar, zhuzhing something up in the blender, and cooking with grill seasoning. Oh Ray Ray how you annoy me!
Tonight, after living in Chicago for 7 years, I finally made it to Spiaggia. It was everything I expected it to be: expensive, small portions, and delicious. I wish I would have taken pictures of my food but I felt a little silly since we had people on either side of our table. Tom had the chef's tasting menu, which was 7 courses, 6 of which were topped with black truffles. I opted for the a la carte menu and had:
Antipasti

Traditional Sardinian carta di musica layered with tomato, Fiore Sardo cheese,
basil and a poached quail egg
Primi Piatti
RISOTTO ORGANICO CON FUNGHI Creamy Aquerello organic risotto with porcini mushrooms and Parmigiano Reggiano Secondi Piatti
FILETTO DE MANZO IN CROSTA CON FUNGHI E PUREA DI PATATE wood-roasted filet mignon with marrow and herb crust, hen of the woods mushrooms, roasted red pearl onions and purple potato puree
The food was definitely wonderful. Was it worth the cost of two domestic-destination plane tickets? Probably not. But I'm definitely glad we finally made it there.
Also, for the first time, we went to the Grand Lux Cafe for lunch. I had a yummy spinach, cheddar, bacon & mushroom omelet with fries.
