Hilopites!

Comments

Ahahaha, you take me back to when I was a kid and my parents would force me to eat it. They made hilopites with these keftedes or w/ chicken. I now of course love them and much like you, I grew up with fide.

As for your Bulgarian feta preference...some are good, yes but I think you need to ask to sample some other Greek fetas and you'll find the right Greek one for you.

Here's to Hilopites!
Aaaah! Too good Elly. One of my absolute favourites as well. Delicious recipe as well.
A new one for me, I will have to be on the look out.
What a wonderful foodie childhood memory Elly. I have seen this pasta at our local Italian grocers, they seem to have everything!! By the way my cookbook arrived last night!!! It looks like Avocado tzatziki might be in my future:D
The Hilopite noodles look interesting. The Hilopite and beef looks good! I like the use of the cinnamon in it.

This looks like the ultimate comfort food to me. What kind of beef did you use? Greek market? Have I missed something? Where is there a Greek market (I'm thinking outdoor type market - am I wrong?)

Peter, don't get me wrong, I love Greek feta. But Bulgarian feta is so nice and salty and so I love it even more. What can I say, hook me up with a salt lick and I will be happy, lol.

Val, I'm glad the cookbook got to you. It seemed to take forever!

Giz, I tend to use round because it's leaner, but i will use whatever is in my fridge/freezer and sometimes just packaged stew meat. The Greek market is just a tiny little shop along the Greektown strip in Chicago. Nothing too exciting!

Thanks, Peter G and Kevin.

Looks delicious.
My children used to love hilopites and the only thing they would ask for me to prepare was hilopites with chicken (actually we're having that tomorrow).
As for feta I am sure you will find the right one.
Looks good! I have never heard of hilopites before. When I lived in Santa Barbara there was a great Greek market/deli. I should see if I could find one around here.
First time I actually see them since my trip to Greece years ago! Wish we had a Greek market here in town! The dish looks so comforting!
i saw your other post and was wondering what hilopites were! not sure i've ever seen it though. this recipe looks like a real comfort food
Can I just share that this noodle used to be in a kraft dinner that was called their Chicken Egg Noodle Dinner?? It was always my favorite meal and I just about died when they discontinued it. I found that the flavors live on in Knorr's creamy chicken noodle side dish :) But, it's not the same w/out the square egg noodles. I knew we were foodie soul mates for a reason! LOL!
