Lady Mix-a-Lot has an identical twin that is in my home! I got one this year, too. LOVE it! :) You've inspired me to add a name which I usually do to my plants. Will have to think on that one.

Since you seemed to have used yours more than me, please feel free to pass on tips on your blog about using it. I am still getting used to my mine.

And yes, the microplane zester is a total kitchen must!

The barkeepers friend is most intriguing and I will be looking into that! thanks! :)

i love the name Lady Mix-a-Lot! cute! My poor KA still doesn't have a name... the skillet before & after's are amazing! I'm definitely going to have to check out bar keepers friend for household cleaning!
I've been a fan of cast-iron skillets from way back when. They are pricey, though now and then you can find one for a reasonable price at the Goodwill or garage sale.

my mixer is jealous and is demanding to be named now!!! :) Mine is pink so it's definitely a girl, like Lady Mix-a-Lot.

Happy new year, Elly. Keep up the wonderful and inspiring blogging.

I so could have written this post! With the exception of the cast-iron skillet, I am in love with all the products you mentioned. I see you want to get an immersion blender this year. I have one and use it for everything. It's a worthwhile investment.

Elly, those are excellent kitchen gadgets and I hope you get all you want for 2008!

Happy new year to you and the hubby my friend!

lol...lady mix a lot...i love it! : ))
I agree with you. I am in love with my KA mixer! I just discovered the wonders of Bar Keepers Friend and I think it's my new bff. : )

I have all those things but the chopper and love love love them as well. I'm totally addicted to the cookie scoop and use it not just for cookies but for meatballs, soutzoukakia, fish cakes etc. - love the uniform sizes. Bar Keeper's Friend is also most excellent for rust stains in sinks, bathtubs, etc. in addition to pots and pans. You definitely NEED an immersion blender, but as for the glass bowl, I'm wondering why. I used to have them, but then I got a stacking set of various sized stainless steel bowls and the glass ones got put away never to be used again and eventually given away. Stainless steel bowls are on my love list. They are light, nonreactive, and you don't have to worry about breaking them. I also had one of those citrus juicers and hated it - I thought it was inefficient, wasted juice, and too hard to use depending on the firmness of the fruit. What I absolutely love to the point my husband thinks I'm insane is a plastic juicer I bought (for a couple euros at most) at a supermarket in Greece -- it has a cup underneath the reamer, which is sharp enough to get the last droppings out of every lemon. You should take a trip there just to buy one! :-) And while you're there, buy a nice big round tapsi - perfect for roasting veggies and baking just about anything. And if you don't have one, another thing you might think about getting is a wooden bread peel for sliding breads onto that baking stone. Am I opinionated? Oh, maybe just a little bit!

Happy New Year, Elly! I hope you get everything you desire from life (and for your kitchen!).

PS: Bob's Friend is me! Laurie Constantino
Oooh a bread peel, I am DEFINITELY adding that to my list. I always have a heck of a time sliding pizza onto the stone! I love my SS bowls, but for some reason I feel like I need a glass bowl...probably not but I probably don't *need* a lot of the things in my kitchen, lol. Good to know about the juicer. I have one like you mentioned but I hate it. I always feel like I am bending sideways at the right angle to get all the juice out, ha.
I wish I had the space in my kitchen for a Kitchen Aid mixer... I wonder what barkeep is? I normally just use baking soda to remove those hard to remove stains from my stainless steal pots and pans.
i got my KA in 2007 too! alas, it does not have a name! ;) i agree with so many of your picks... i use my zester and cookie scoop all the time. i also don't know what i would use to clean my pans if i didn't have the bar keeper's friend. i may need to invest in a cast iron skillet this year...

LOL-Lady Mix A Lot...that is great.

Lady Mix-a-lot! LOL! I have one also. I call it the Metallic Chrome Wonder! Bar keeper's is a must have and so are my dishers (my cookie and cupcake scoopers purchased from a restaurant supply store). I purchased my Anchor Hocking glass bowls from Target. I put them to the test this Christmas when I made my French Chocolate Bark! They passed with flying colors.

Great best buys post! Happy New Year!
I live with my husband in a retirement community now. I gave up my mixer to move here. Kitchen is very small. Still I wonder if the one you have in your picture will make bread dough. Yours is the type where the head lifts up I think. My old mixer was the KA that has a lever that lifts the bowl and it was terrific with bread dough. I am not cooking enough to justify a mixer but I love to think about it. Your blog is really fun to visit. All the best for 2008.
a cast iron skillet for tortillas??? i thought i taught you better... ;)
Great post!
