Moving update
After I post my dinner later on tonight, I won't be updating the blog for a while. We are moving on Monday morning so cocina de Elly will be closed for a few days. Plus, I won't have internet access in our new place (oh the horror!) until May 8.
I was just attempting to clean my kitchen a bit and consolidate some of my herbs and spices. My goal was to get all my herbs/spices to fit on this handy dandy shelf I bought some time ago. The herbs have never quite come close to fitting on there, but moving gives me a chance to pitch spices I don't use or ones that have lost their flavor after a while. So I thought I'd give it a whirl. I came close. Really close. I had to stick a few on the counter, and I couldn't fit my bulk spices on there (some Italian seasoning, a huge bag of sumac and a few other odds and ends), but this is a definite improvement.
I really love those cute spice racks and carousels you can buy, but I could never widdle my dried herbs down to the 10 or 12 containers they give you. This was already hard enough!
I also thought I would post an update on my freezer inventory. I have been cooking primarily out of my freezer/pantry for what seems like ages. I have definitely made a huge dent in our freezer stash. In the meantime, I have become an expert at using the chicken drumstick in every way imaginable.
1 1/2 ginormous bag of shrimp20 chicken drumsticks1/2 pork tenderloin
1/2 lb. ground beef
chicken sausages: 4 Italian style, 2 chipotle flavored 3 portioned-out flank steaks (about 10 oz. each)
2 chicken thighs
4 chicken breasts
56 4 whole wheat tortillas1/2 loaf ezekial bread1/2 bag corn
1/2 bag peas
1 bag green beans (which I only like fresh so I have no idea why I even have this)1.5 1 bag mixed vegetables1/2 bag pitted cherries
1 small box snow peas
white wine, portioned out
1/2 loaf of tsoureki (our sweet Easter bread)
Not too shabby!
Before I start making dinner, I ask you...is it really necessary for anyone to have this many nylon cooking utensils? I mean, really.
PS: You may notice our "fruit" basket has 4 heads of garlic in it. Only my husband would go grocery shopping with a week left and buy me 5 heads of garlic. What can I say, he knows his wife loves garlic!

LMAO We are kitchen twins in more ways than one, my friend...I have a whole spice cupboard. And I *still* have to store some in my pantry. hahaha And utensils? My hubs would probably faint if he knew the extent of my addiction. He'd send me to rehab or something. hahaha And the garlic thing? Totally. At least we don't have to worry about vampires! ;) :)
All of my spices are in bulk.
When I moved out of living with my ex over a year ago, I took an ENTIRE BOX of just spices and stuff. Ridiculous, I know. Best part? I genuinely use most of them! I cook so frequently that to me it was worth it. :)
I have forced the new boyfriend to learn what "stocking up" and "eating at home" means. If it were up to him to fix food, he would eat 3 or 4 main meals with little variation, although they are very healthy, and everything else would be take out. Ugh. I'd die from the boredom alone!
